Description
Originally published in the early 1970s, this work incorporated Canadian government and church documentary sources along with Dene oral history in order to build a history of the negotiations of Treaties 8 (1899-1900) and 11 (1921), between the government and the First Nations peoples of northern Canada, and their aftermath up to the 1973 Supreme Court ruling recognizing aboriginal land rights. This new edition is accompanied by an epilogue by Joanne Barnaby (former Executive Director of the Dene Cultural Institute) briefly updating political and cultural developments since 1973.
