This work primarily presents the results of research of physical anthropologists on long-term health trends in the Americas using evidence of chronic disease or biological stress measurable from skeletal remains in terms that will demonstrate their usefulness to other social scientists, historians in particular. The research primarily concerns evidence regarding Native Americans across the Western Hemisphere, but about 20 percent of the research material concerns Euro- and African-Americans in North America.
