The Sámi people : traditions in transition

In this translation of the revised Finnish edition, Lehtola (U. of Oulu) traces the evolving culture of his people (also known by outsiders by the disdained term Lapps). He discusses many aspects of the diverse aboriginal culture, and identifies Sapmi, the Sami homeland, as the basis for the formation of a unified national identity. The study includes images of traditional and modern Sami culture, a glossary of place names, and a list of publications by/about the Sami in several languages.
